National Schools regatta 2012, brought yet more great
success for Borlase; finishing third overall in the medal
tables andbeatingmany elite private schools. Thus proving
that the much flooded caravan at Longridge holds greater
potential than million pound purpose built club houses.
The strength of the team showed too at the British
Championships, as the girls team brought back two gold,
and three bronze medals.
This winter saw a long period of fitness training, due to
the excess of water in the Thames! However, the intensity
of the training schedule combined with new heart-
rate monitors, lactate testing equipment, and louder
speakers in the gym, brought some great results on the
ergos across all the year groups, and set us up well for the
regatta season. The arrival of ‘The Birthday T-shirt’, and
other gimmicks, along with the continually smiling faces
of the younger years, throughout this period, meant that
the traditionally gruelling winter months were extremely
entertaining and enjoyable!
Training camp saw the team going to the new facilities of
the ‘Willem-Alexanderbaan’ rowing course in Rotterdam
for a week. The 15 hour days consisted of 3 training
sessions, study time, and possibly the best mass catered
food ever seen. The determination of all the rowers,
along with the outstanding new facilities and the ever
enthusiastic coaching team, all combined to prove that the
isolated combination of work, study and food is massively
beneficial.
The last day of rowing camp summarised a rower’s ability
to make the most of every minute of the day: waking up
in Rotterdam, racing in Belgium and then travelling back
through France before returning back to England, we
made our mark at our first international regatta, in our
beautifully coordinated kit! The day saw two wins, and a
number of other good performances, topped off with the
best supporters Belgium has ever seen.
The team has felt like a ‘team’more than ever this year, and
I think this will show greatly in our approaching summer
regatta season.

Year 8 Rounders
There is no better way than starting off a season of Rounders with a win! We put together two teams on the top of
their game to take on Great Marlow School on Wednesday 22
nd
May. The first match For Borlase A was against Great
Marlow’s B team; both were captained admirably by a Peperell twin. A solid victory for Borlase was all we needed with
8 ½ rounders to their 1. Some
strong hitting came from Ellie
Brown and Millie Martin. And
when fielding at least three
girls were stumped out at
second base by Ella Brown.
A similar result ensued
against Great Marlow’s A
team, however they put up a
stronger fight. Victory went
on with 5 ½ rounders to 3
½ .Overall a clean sweep for
Borlase. We look forward to
the season ahead.
