Old Borlasians
Greetings to all Old Borlasians
from your President and Committee.
Our paid-up membership now numbers 240, an
improving situation, which is encouraging without being
outstanding. But we are hoping that the newly created
permanent exhibition of Old Borlasian memorabilia,
recently established in the library (see below), may usher
a number of 6
th
form leavers into the Club so that they do
not have to think they have left their old School behind
forever.
The Annual Reunion
of former staff and pupils last year
was held on Saturday 9
th
June at Marlow Town Regatta
where we pitched our tent and entertained a considerable
number of Old Borlasian staff and Old Borlasian pupils.
We did the same thing this year on Saturday 8
th
June,
having noted that last year’s success contrasted so sharply
with what we did in 2011. Again we erected a small
gazebo and dispensed a complimentary pint of ‘Rebellion’
or a glass of ‘Pimms’ and made contact with a fair group of
young people.
It’s definitely a formula that works!
The Annual Dinner 2012
was held again at Court Garden
on Saturday 17
th
November and the usual steady number
of Old Borlasians and their guests enjoyed a very pleasant
evening. Though we had no Guest Speaker the evening
proceeded with some fund raising games at table and a
raffle. Dr. Holding, in his accustomed faultless style, kept us
abreast of the activities and successes of today’s Borlase.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of an
engraved drinking mug to retiring Committee Member
Tony Chubb (1937 – 42) in recognition of 60 years service
to the Club as a Committee Member.
The Club was pleased to enjoy the presence of the Head
Boy and Girl for 2012, Remy Osman and Molly Snowe.
The Toast to the School was very eloquently proposed by
Cathie Wells, Cathie Nixon (1990 – 92), a former pupil and
former staff member.
The Presidency passed from David Dandridge to Greg Lim
(1997 – 03).
An enjoyable occasion for all who attended.
