Year 8 Girls’ Cricket
Jade:
The girls’ under 13 Borlase indoor-cricket team had
their first tournament at the Stoke Mandeville stadium on
Friday 22
nd
March 2013.
Libby:
It started when Mr Robertson announced that
a girls’ cricket club was starting up on a Monday and
Thursday lunch ready for a tournament in the distant
future. The next Monday everyone who wanted to join
met up in the gym and cricket club started.
Ella:
One day at practice Mr Robertson announced that
the tournament would take place on the 3
rd
of May. We
stepped up the training and soon we were almost ready,
then the date changed to the 22
nd
March!
Jess:
We had only a week to prepare
and
choose our
team. So we had try-outs and waited eagerly to discover
the team. The team was posted on first class and training
became more serious as we practised working together as
a squad.
Sarah:
We had a meeting to discuss tactics and we were
almost ready. We just needed a captain. We sat round our
coaches waiting impatiently for the announcement of our
captain. Then we found out… Jade was our captain.
Izzie:
The day came, when we got there we dropped off
our stuff and got ready for our first game. The umpire
explained all the rules and we were ready to go. Although
we weren’t in the first match we took this time to carry on
preparing ourselves.
Jade:
And then we went down to talk tactics and in front
of us were the Paralympics GB shooting team. They were
very kind and patient and let us have their autographs and
a few pictures with them.
Eden:
that was one of the best parts of the day. Then it was
time for our match. In this match we had 3 retired players
and 2 people were either bowled or stumped out. In the
end we lost that match, but by only 5 runs.
Amelia
: It was very close and frustrating but we were
determined to win the next match. Unfortunately we lost
by 3 runs! We had good tactics as we paid close attention
to what the other team had done in the previous match
and tried our best!
Olivia:
So overall we lost the tournament by 2 runs. But it
didn’t matter. We met Paralympics shooters, had a great
day out and all in all it was a fantastic experience.
Alys:
We came second in the county, which, for our first
match all together as a team, was a great achievement.
And we all had a good time playing and we also learnt a
whole new skill.
