Borlase Rowing 2012–13
2013 has again been a successful year for Borlase rowers.
With the Olympics of summer 2012 , Borlase rose to the
occasion, qualifying at Henley Royal , with the girls’ quad,
Amber de Vere, Elisha Lewis, Helen O’Riordan and Gaby
Halloran reaching the semi final and the boys’ quad of
Michael Timofijiw, Jack Beaumont, Harry Shimmin and
Max Coussens winning the Fawley Challenge cup. Further
into the summer the international representation rose and
rose with Borlase representing Great Britain, Elisha Lewis
competing in the women’s junior four at the 2012 world
rowing championships, and Helen O’Riordan also in the
women’s four at Coupe de la Jeunesse. To finish it all off
we had Borlase coach, Chris Bartley in the London 2012
Olympics who won a silver medal in the lightweight men’s
four.
With this golden summer in mind, 2013 training kicked off;
winter training was tough as per usual, the weather doing
everything possible to keep us off the water. Everyone
trainedhard through toMarch , and four events came inone
intense block, Reading University head, then Schools head
, Junior sculling head and Women’s head consecutively,
breaking the monotony of training and providing us with
the chance to use the fitness we had been building for the
past few months. We picked up some great results despite
lack of time on the water:
