2013 has been an extremely successful year, and hopefully
there will bemore success to come, at Henley Royal regatta
this summer. I would like to say thank you to Jess Hughes
for being a fantastic head of boats throughout the whole
year, to all the Borlase coaches, and a particular big thank
you to Harry and Robin for all their hard work this year.
Girls’ Rowing 2013
Last season started offwith a first for girls rowing at Borlase.
A senior quad made up of Amber DeVere, Gaby Halloran,
Ellie Lewis and Helen O’Riordan, entered into the first ever
JuniorWomen’s event at Henley Royal Regatta. Historically,
a male only regatta, this was a big deal, not just for Borlase
girls but for female rowers across the country and around
the world. The quad qualified and reached the semi-finals,
enjoying every minute of it, and representing Borlase on
this global stage, with a very professional performance.
Ellie, Amber and Gaby have all now left Borlase, however
they have all continued rowing. Ellie, in particular, has
continued training, frequently with Borlase, and has
strong GB prospects having qualified for the under 23s
team this year. Helen O’Riordian went on last season too,
to represent GB juniors, at ‘Coupe de la Jeunesse’ 2012,
returning with a bronze and silver medal.
This GB potential was also shown throughout the club, as
Alex Flyncame came 14
th
at the November early ID trials,
and Becca Taylor and Olivia Radcliff got through to the GB
team for GB France, travelling to France and racing in the
8, in an incredibly close race.
