school gym in the surrounding counties in preparation for
the nationals weekend atWhitgift – and what a weekend it
was, possibly the greatest weekend of my life. Not only did
we come awaywith a goldmedal, defeatingour bitter rivals
Whitgift in the process, but we also managed to have a
team photo that was so hilariously funny the photography
company refused to put it on their website. Fruit up the
nose in the Hilton combined with the players’ player of the
year Tom “have you been working out?” Marriott banging
in the goals like he was playing for Maidenhead, combined
hockey with having a good time, resulting in a truly special
weekend.
This is the point where I wish I could tell you the indoor win
was our platform that propelled us to the national outdoor
finals as well. But, alas, it was not to be and we finished the
outdoor season with only a county winners’ medal and a
torn hamstring to show for it. Why was this the case yet
again for the Borlase 1
st
XI hockey team?
Maybe it was because top own goal scorer Will Field
spent more time stopping the ball with his crotch and
complaining about insects in his eye then actually playing
hockey. Who knows? What I can say is that it has still been
a hugely enjoyable season with a great group of lads who
know how to have a good time.
A huge thank you to Michael Irving and Mr Chappell,
thank you for the incredible number of hours you put into
the season; it has been one of both highs and lows, and
hopefully you have had as much fun as we have along the
way. Also a thank you to the hockey support group who
have done an unbelievable amount of work behind the
scenes to make our successful season possible.

U12 Girls’ Hockey
This year the U12 A team have done quite well.
At the beginning of the year we had never played with
each other before and in the trainings we got used to each
other and our strengths.
As the year went on, around Christmas time, we started
really working as a team and from then on we did better in
the league and in our matches.
All the trainings and coaching help us a lot!
Overall I think we did quite well for our first year and I think
that everyone enjoyed the hockey club and matches!
