Sports Captains’ Report
Sian and I have been the sports captains at the school
for the past year, and in this short space of time we
have seen achievement across the board. We started
our careers with the hugely successful Olympic themed
games day which brought together a whole range of
both sporting and non-sporting activities ranging from
boccia to sports photography. Following on from this
we are looking to build and improve for this coming
summer so that it is a day that everyone can enjoy and
participate in.
In a summer of sporting excellence we had our own
international gold medallists in the Fawley Challenge cup
at the highly prestigious Henley Royal rowing regatta.
Jack Beaumont, Michael Tymofijiw, Harry Shimmin and
Max Coussens brought home the trophy in style beating
rivals Marlow rowing club in the final after overcoming
boats from as far as Australia, to top off another fine year
for the Borlase rowing club. A special mention must be
made for Jack Beaumont who after leaving Borlase in the
summer travelled to Sydney in January to compete and
win the rowing singles in the Australian youth Olympics: a
monumental sporting achievement and a testament to his
hard work and dedication.
Onto the new school year and the winter sports season.
Netball continued their good form from last season
managing to progress to the south rounds of the national
school championship for the second time ever after
achieving the same last year. This involved winning their
league, with their most notable victory being that over
fierce rivals Wycombe Abbey.
The rugby team held their own in the surrounding area
with good results against John Hampden and Burnham
Grammar school. Their team spirit and morale was second
to none.
Hockey at Borlase along with rowing is a sport we usually
excel at and this year was no different. Both the boys’ and
girls’ first team competed in the south competitions for
outdoor as county champions. In the indoor season the
boys became the first ever state team to win the indoor
national championship, and it was the first time in the
school’s history the indoor competition has been won.
The success of hockey at Borlase is continuing to produce
players of national standard and this year both Jack Clee
and Livy Paige represented England in the European Four
Nations tournament.
The boys’ football season is only just coming to an end
with one more fixture to play. Last week they progressed
to the final of the South Bucks Sixth Form Cup. Here they
will be playing Misbourne or BurnhamGrammar in a game
that’s set to be full of excitement.
Last year the Equestrian team came 2
nd
place at the
Royal Windsor Competition; they were one of only 2
state schools in the competition. Emily Martin and Ella
Kennedy also qualified for the National Championships in
December for show jumping and dressage. We also had a
team compete at a jumping with style competition who
came a respectable 7
th
out of a very large field!
Unfortunately, our Rowing or Cricket season has not yet
started but their training is looking promising and we
wish them, and the football team, all the very best for their
upcoming fixtures.
