School Games Organiser Report
So many of you are probably thinking what is a School Games Organiser and who is ours! Well it’s me, Miss Hewitt, and
my role is to work across our partnership of schools and set up festivals and competitions for all the age groups.
Our partnership of schools consists of around 30 schools with a mix of infants, primaries, secondaries and independents.
They are located throughout the Marlow area, through Wycombe and into Hazlemere and the surrounding areas. The
School Games concept was launched in September 2011 and has been growing ever since, with schools competing at
inter-form and inter house level, then going on to play inter-school at local festivals and the winner from local festivals
going forwards to represent the partnership at the Bucks School Games in June.
I run festivals in hockey, netball, football (girls and boys), tag rugby, golf, rounders, swimming, athletics, panathlon
(disability sports), tennis, badminton, rowing, softball, cricket, table tennis and cycling. These range from Year 3 right
through to Year 9 and the festivals are run by the sports leaders and School Sports Coordinators in each secondary. They
do a fantastic job at umpiring, refereeing, scoring and planning the festivals to ensure they run smoothly.
This year we have worked closely with primary schools to ensure they are forming links with the secondary schools that
they feed into. We also work closely with community clubs to form links between them and both primary and secondary
schools. I have helped launch the Change 4 Life programme in some primary schools to encourage more young people
to become active if they aren’t currently.
School sport plays a vital part in keeping students fit and active. With the new primary school sport funding we are very
excited about the future of sport in this partnership.
