Sports Day 2012
From 2012 here at Borlase, Sports Day changed. While
it still remains focused on athletic endeavour it also
now incorporates a much wider range of activities and
competitions and therefore incorporates many more
pupils. The day started with an Olympic style Opening
Ceremony, with a house procession around the track
and an official opening of the day. Pupils and staff
then stayed to watch the 100m finals and cheered on
their representatives. That commenced the athletics
programme for the day which ran all day with sprints, long
distance, jumping, throwing and relays.
Across the other areas of the school many things took
place throughout the day, with houses running charity
stalls, selling drinks, cakes, sweets, running raffles, offering
challenges and games such as teacher in the stocks
and so on. On the cloisters lawn the House Croquet
Competition took place, while in the Hall the House Table
Tennis Competition was closely fought. The House Boccia
challenge took place up on the netball courts alongside
a fun netball challenge pupils could have a go at. On the
chapel lawn we had a gladiator style duel inflatable which
saw some great contests, with giant garden games for
fun alongside it. The backdrop to this was a stage with
live student bands performing as part of the Arts Week
with some great talent being showcased throughout the
afternoon.
On Home Meadow there were inflatable slides, an
inflatable obstacle course and space to socialise and relax
when pupils weren’t busy with their tasks and events. On
