Old Borlasians
Hockey Support Group
I’ve taken over from Keith (Packer) as Chairman of SWB
Hockey Support Group and Keith has asked me to send
you a few words to summarise our year. Mike Irving,
Director of Hockey is also supplying a story about our on-
the- pitch achievements. I realise I’m not an ex-Borlasian
but hope this information I send might play a useful part
somewhere
In September 2012 The SWB Hockey Support Group
launched the new season with a celebration of 40 Years
of Hockey at the school. The day commenced early with
matches between the younger year groups and ended
with Borlase’s Boys 1
st
XI v Old Borlasian Men’s 1
st
XI. That
evening there was a celebration dinner in the school
hall with guest speaker Kate Walsh GB Women’s Olympic
Hockey Captain. The whole day was a massive success.
December 2012 saw the Boys’ and Girls’ 1
st
XIs, Borlase’s
hockey coaches and many of the hockey parents enjoy a
black-tie extravaganza, celebrating with a Christmas party
in The Great Hall of Bisham Abbey, the home of England
Hockey. It was such a success that the Great Hall has been
booked for a repeat performance on December 13
th
this
year.
March 2013 saw a belated celebration of Olympic Hockey.
The SWB Hockey Support Group invited a trio of Olympic
Speakers to the school theatre. The evening commenced
with some of the school’s home-grown International
End of season match
Sport
Cricket
Unfortunately the bad weather caused this event to be
cancelled in 2012.
Rowing
Old Borlasian Regatta
Yet again, with great disappointment, I have to report that
this event did not take place last year. Holding it in the first
two weeks of the autumn term following the long summer
break seems to cause organisational problems, not least
getting O.B crews together. However, having it at that time
should mean that recent leavers, who rowed, are available
before going up to University, as almost all of them do.
We will not give up and will try again this year with a date
pencilled in of Sunday 15 September 2013.

Football
Old Boys Football Match 2013
Old Boys ran out 5-3 winners in the annual Football clash.
It was an excellent contest with some silky skills being
displayed on the old meadow. Returning former captains
Will Durkin and Steve Brzezicki and done their homework
on the current 1
st
XI. Despite going behind on 3 occasions
they showed the perseverance and tenacity to run out
victors. In the end it was the experience of Old Boy Bruno
Jeffrey and the sheer class of Joe Noone that separated the
two sides.
