Charities Report
Mufti Days
As always, there have been a number of Mufti Days
throughout the school year to fundraise for different
charities. The money from one of these was sent to our
partner school in Africa. In the past, the money sent by
Borlase has paid for windows and boundary fences, a
library, science equipment, and solar power.
Another Mufti Day was in aid of Vivi’s Venture, raising
money to help pay for an operation and subsequent
treatment needed by Vivi, the daughter of a friend of Miss
Tabone. Vivi has a type of cerebral palsy that affects her
legs and feet, and needed surgery to reduce the pain she
was experiencing and to allow her to walk, rather than
being confined to a wheelchair. There was no funding
available, so her family and friends had to raise the money
themselves, and our Mufti Day contributed towards the
cost. Vivi had the operation in October and is currently
having daily physiotherapy to build up the muscles in her
legs.
As well as supporting causes with close links to the school,
we have also participated in nation-wide non-uniform
days, with a spots-themed Mufti Day for Children in Need,
and a Mufti Day for Red Nose Day where everyone wore
something red.
Having chosen the charities for some of the non-uniform
days, we decided that wewould like everyone in the school
to have more of a say in which charities we support. So we
asked people to nominate charities, ending up with a long
and diverse list chosen by both pupils and members of
staff. Each form then voted on its preferred charities, and
the three that were chosen were: Great Ormond Street
Hospital, The Alzheimer’s Society, and Teenage Cancer
Trust.
Children in Need
As well as allocating a non-uniform day for Children in
Need, we also had a cake competition. The entries were all
brilliant, and choosing the three
winners was very difficult. We
awarded the first prize
to Minoli Vehella
for
her
lovely
Pudsey Bear cake,
the second prize
to Becca Fisher’s
Pudsey
cupcakes,
and the third prize
to Harry Elliott for his
Borlase crest with a Children
in Need theme. The cake sale
afterwards raised over £90
– thanks to everyone who
made and bought cakes.
