A Recap of the Year
I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank
you to the PA team for all their fantastic energy and
enthusiasm this last year – it is very much appreciated! The
team aimed to present a diverse programme of enjoyable
events and in the process raised £17K for the school.
We kicked off the Christmas term with Quiz Night. Much
of the success of that night is owed to Tim Haveron Jones
for not only preparing such a brilliant Quiz but hosting the
evening as such a charismatic Quiz Master. Luckily Tim has
agreed to be our host again in October – we look forward
to that.
A month later we had the lunch at the Rugby Club with
Naomi Riches, the partially sighted gold Olympian rower.
Naomi was not only a delightful speaker but also keen to
talk to parents and pupils individually afterwards which
was great. The delicious lunch in the spacious surroundings
was simply an added bonus.
Band and Beer Night began the events for 2013 and what
a success it was. ”Riser” filled the floor with dancers once
we were well underway, whilst other parents chose to soak
up the great atmosphere in the hall.
Only a month later the hall was transformed again, this
time with the Wine Tasting event; guests seemed to enjoy
the opportunity to eat a little, drink a little and have lots of
time to catch up with others on their table.
In May we were “licensed to thrill”. The Ball at Henley
Management College was not only highly profitable but
thoroughly decadent and enjoyable. The scene was set
with the Aston Martin DB5 outside the main entrance
where 6ft flames adorned the beautiful pillars. Guests had
plenty to enjoy – from the delicious meal, to the DJ and
the disco room, the auction and finally the casino tables.
Definitely an evening to remember!
Once school finishes we will be running a Hog Roast for
the new incoming Year 7 parents. Hopefully the turnout
will be strong; it gives new parents the opportunity to mix
with others from their child’s class.
Away from events other sources of fundraising have
included the highly profitable EBay auction and Lost
Property. EBay made well over two thousand pounds
which is absolutely fantastic.
The small but effective gardening team laboured hard
and made significant impact on the school grounds,
particularly in and around the Cloisters area, Chapel
Gardens and by the Wet Weather Seating area. Thank you
for working so hard and at times in such awful weather.
On the communication front we have endeavoured to
surge forward and this year we have a fantastic new all
singing and all dancing PA website. With Class Reps in
place for all the lower years supported by our own class
rep coordinator hopefully it will allow great liaison within
classes and year groups.
So to the year ahead….There are three dates for your diary
in the Autumn term – Comedy Night – 21
st
September,
Quiz Night – 19
th
October and the return of the Christmas
Market – 28
th
November. We rely entirely on parent support
for making these events the success that they can be, so if
you get chance please come along and support the PA. At
the end of the day all the money we make goes to making
Borlase an even better school for our children.
