House Report
Britons
This year has flown by for Britons house and it’s been a
great year for bringing the house together. Connie Bennett
(Arts Captain) did a brilliant job organising the House
Drama entries, who gave some entertaining performances
in assembly time. We particularly enjoyed Chris Murphy’s
monologue and Tasza and Nina Stevens brought their
sisterly experience to their performance. Mrs Forrest’s
assembly on people’s favourite books offered up some
interesting surprises, revealing John Green as a current
popular author, along with Mrs Walder’s affection for the
maths teacher’s favourite, Douglas Adams. Meanwhile, Mr
Heywood’s fishing assemblies are always a staple Britons
item. Another memorable assembly was led by us, along
with Pedr Charlesworth, as we showed our film of our
Arctic adventures. As usual, House Maths was fantastic,
with another winning performance from the team,
spearheaded by Chris Turner. Hopefully Sports Day will
be a similar success! We have really enjoyed being house
prefects and we are sure next year’s prefects will be worthy
leaders of the house!

Danes
Our time as House Captains started off well as we won
Sports Day, achieving all of our goals! Since then it’s not
gone as dramatically, with us placing fairly low down in
the House Drama competition. But we made up for that by
coming third in Cross Country, running us further up the
points table.
Around Christmas we decided that tensions with the
house of Saxons had raised to incredibly high levels, and
as such we made a declaration of war, fighting a great
battle of skittle moving and limbo dancing. Unfortunately
this resulted in a draw, but house-patriotism was at an all
time high! At Easter we introduced Inter-FormCake Baking
within the house, which went down well – the cakes were
amazing, and truly went beyond our baking expectations
– which was a delicious way to spend a House Assembly!
We’re hopeful we can emulate our success in Sports Day
this year, but obviously it won’t be the same without us!!
We wish everyone all the very best this summer, and may
Danes ever be victorious!

Romans
This academic year has proven to be another great year
for the Romans. It all kicked off with the traditional inter-
house cross country, in which a huge amount of the
Roman army participated. We must pay tribute to the
individuals who performed exceptionally, such as Jessica
Taylor and Natasha Taylor, who both earned medals for
their excellence.
I believe that this year, Wednesday form assemblies have
been a true pleasure. This is largely down to the charismatic
pair of Will Field and Helen O’Riordan, our Heads of House,
who present with a charming air and always encourage
Roman participation in inter-house events. This is also true
of Miss Tabone, who is definitely one of the main driving
forces behind the Roman army. I must also mention the
great work of Sid Green, who was an outstanding Head
Girl and a true attribute to the Roman house. Through this
great leadership, as well as with the obvious advantage of
having the theatre to utilise, many excellent assemblies
have been arranged; assemblies such as a ‘Mastermind’
competition, in which people from all years could
compete. This is only one example, and the eventful and
enjoyable nature of this year’s assemblies has helped to
bring the Roman house, as a whole, closer together.
The outstanding performance of ‘Les Misérables’ put on
by the budding actors of Borlase produced another proud
moment for the Roman house as Berenice Cunningham-
Walker, a new Roman prefect, played her major role
exceptionally well. Many other Romans, such as Katy
Packer, also participated within‘Les Misérables’and helped
make the Roman house proud.
I very much hope that the Romans can continue to excel
at Sports Day, and that the atmosphere of companionship
that exists within the house can be carried throughout the
