routine giving the dancers a chance to experience a lot of
styles.
We were delighted to be able to choreograph a number
for Borlase’s annual dance show, “Spectrum”, giving the
rebounders an opportunity to perform. Normally the
dance show is open to seniors but this year the juniors
were also invited. The dance they did was to Beyoncé’s
“Run theWorld”and had an army theme to it. It was a dance
full of attitude and energy and we were very proud of the
junior company and how they coped with the pressure of
performing with the senior dancers. Overall, this year with
rebound has been another successful one and we are so
excited to see who else joins next year and what we can do
with them as they continue to improve!

Evolve
Evolve started the academic year with a resident
choreographer, John Darvell, Artistic Director of Nocturn
Dance Company. Over the few months of rehearsals with
John, we created‘Levvitown Lane’, a piece that represented
the idea of a facade of perfection – think ‘Desperate
Housewives’! We decided to apply to the U-Dance Youth
Competition, so we sent off a rather ‘rusty’ work-in-
progress in the hopes of being one of very few youth
dance companies selected for the South East Platform.
After Christmas our term with John sadly ended and
we began our weekly rehearsals with Mr Stenberg, and
I can safely say that anyone who has ever participated
in a ‘warm up’ with Mr Stenberg will be able to imagine
how physically challenging we found the 2-hour weekly
rehearsals after the Christmas holidays! Needless to say,
we soon regained our fitness and began to create a new
piece: ‘Spectrum.’
In themean time, we found out that we had been accepted
into the U Dance South East Platform – and we were
elated! For the next month or so, we worked extensively on
‘Levvitown Lane’ and, after numerous intense rehearsals,
we were ready to compete! On the 16
th
March, we made
our way to Sevenoaks where we took part in a workshop
to produce the opening piece of the show along with the
other young dance groups that had been selected. We
were the first group to perform, and we definitely set the
standard high after performing our hearts out! All in all it
was a brilliant day and we enjoyed every minute.
The Senior Dance Show took place just two weeks after
our competition, and we performed wholeheartedly
(whilemissing one dancer, who twisted her ankle the week
before!) for our last ever opportunity with Evolve of 2013.
It was been an amazing year to spend with such a
cohesive and friendly group, and we have been incredibly
fortunate to have a term with a resident choreographer.
We couldn’t have hoped for a better group of people, and
it was been truly brilliant to be able to create such close
friendships across various year groups. I also want to take
the opportunity to say a huge thank you to Mrs Hindley,
Mr Stenberg and John on behalf of all of Evolve.

Strictly Come Dancing 2013
Along with the rest of Year 8, Charlie and I were competing
to get the strictly trophy. To get to the main competition
we had to get through the class rounds. We had to pick a
dance out of the three we had been taught in class and
Charlie and I picked the Jive; we then had to make up a
dance and perform it in front of our class and some judges.
Charlie and I didn’t think we were going to get through in
our Jive category as I broke my arm just before the class
rounds, which must have been really annoying for Charlie
because we had to take out some of our moves and were
unable to practise asmuch as wewanted to. To our surprise
we won our category within our class and got through to
the final with two other couples from our class. We then
chose our costumes and had to do a lot of practice. It was
hard with my broken arm (but we knew the cast would be
off for the final). (Holly)
We got there on the night having had a practice run the day
before knowing what was happening. We practised before
the event and while it was going on we watched the other
categories while we waited for our turn; they were all very
good. Our category was last and we were last to perform.
We entered the stage to a cheer from the crowd and when
we finished we managed to get a full score of forty, ten
from each judge. We were through to the final. We then
had to dance again and with the other couples who won
their categories of the waltz and cha cha cha. We danced
for the final time and then the judges took a long time to
decide who would be the winner and they came back with
the news Holly and I had won. (Charlie)

GCSE Dance
What a successful year for GCSE dance!
We can all agree it was a difficult and testing year for all
our patience (especially Mrs Hindley’s!) as we had to
choreograph three individual pieces, learn a whole set
dance and learn two specific professional works for our
final Critical Appreciation of Dance exam in Summer.
