Head Girl and Boy’s Foreword
I honestly thought the emotional upset of leaving Borlase had
been and gone during our tearful last chapel service; though as
I write this I realise this isn’t the case. Having just finished the
final exams of our school career, the reality that we’ve reached
the end of this part of our lives is starting to hit home. Arriving
in Year 7 a whole seven years ago, I could never have imagined
reaching the point which I am at now. It seemed so far ahead in
the future. However, here I am ready to move on, feeling that the
past seven years have been far too short.
The Class of 2013. What can I say? We are a year full to the brim with talent, character and ambition. Whether they
arrived in year 7,8,10 or 12, its members are a cohesive group and I cannot imagine what it will be like when we part ways
this summer. It’s the end of an era for us, regardless of where we go next; be it university, travelling or going straight into
work, we will never be a year group together again. The past seven years have been filled with innumerable experiences
and achievements, and I think we can all leave with pride in all that we have accomplished.
I feel that we will all leave with fond memories of our time here, memories such as the Christmas carol service, Sports
Relief mile, “catching” a fish during cross country and our leavers’ celebrations. Borlase has been like a family to all of us,
full of atmosphere, support and friendly faces, none of whom I wish to forget. I think we owe a tremendous amount to
the teaching staff here as they have been absolutely pivotal to our journey up the school and our journey as individuals.
Their consistent support and care is absolutely second to none, and I really don’t think they get enough credit for what
they do.
You can take a child out of school, but you can never take the school out of the child. Borlase will stay in your blood, in
your memories. It has that effect on people. You spend your whole time there proud to be a Borlasian especially when
competing against other schools in sport, the arts or academia. Personally, I don’t think I felt more proud for my school
than while representing the school at national rowing and hockey events; especially when we triumphed and came
back with a medal, or a trophy to add to the cabinet. We are renowned for our cohesive nature as a school, we cooperate
and we trust in each other. This is a rare attribute for a school to possess, and I think it is what makes Borlase such a
fundamental part of your life.
For everyone who is yet to complete their time at Borlase, it is crucial you make the absolute most of every opportunity
given to you. School days really are some of the best times of your life. Treasure every second as you will find that time
will fly pass. I can still remember so vividly catching the bus in on my first day, which I know is a cliché, but it does feel
like only yesterday that I was a rather awkwardly tall Year 7 student!
As you read through the pages of “The Borlasian 2013”, admire and acknowledge the achievements of the people who
surround you every day at school. Let the talent of others inspire you to do your absolute best and most importantly of
all, enjoy the rest of your time here. Wear your Borlase crest with pride and your head held high and feel as I have done,
honoured to be part of such a unique institution.
Forever Borlase!
