Old Borlasian Cabinet
No, not that kind of cabinet! We may have an M.P on the
committee but we have not gone all political yet. I am
talking display cabinets here.
Last September the school, in conjunctionwith theMarlow
Society, held a very successful Heritage open day when
many of the school buildings were open to the public. In
preparing for the exhibition of school memorabilia that
was put on show, a large collection of items was dug out
of cupboards and roof spaces and dusted off for display.
Together with items in the possession of individual
Old Borlasians, there was a great amount of interesting
memorabilia which we felt should be on permanent
display somewhere in the school. Well some of it, anyway,
as there is too much to show altogether. After some
searching, we found a suitable glass display cabinet
which was purchased by the Old Borlasian Club and has
been placed in the Sixth form quiet study area next to the
library. Already it contains some of the more interesting
and displayable items including the attractive silver
“Toovey Cup”with names of all past presidents of the club
engraved on the base. We can change exhibits around in
the future in which case that will be a cabinet reshuffle.
More recently we have acquired another large cabinet
which can be used for both display and general storage
of memorabilia including back copies of the Borlasian
magazine and many fascinating old photographs. This
cabinet was kindly given to us by the outgoing Anglican
vicar of St. Andrew’s Shared Church at Cippenham, by way
of John Barry who attends the Church.
These two cabinets are a great asset for Old Borlasians
and the school, allowing all sorts of documents,
photographs and unusual paraphernalia to have a home
and be displayed for all to see and enjoy rather than be
tucked away in some dusty cupboard and at risk of being
forgotten.
If you come to the Old Borlasian dinner this November or
visit the school any other time do make an effort to go and
see the display.

News in Brief
The Chapel Spire
The external works have been completed for the chapel
spire and the spire is restored to its former glory. Being
one of the iconic buildings of Marlow this is an important
achievement. This work has been carried out as a result of
donations from the Old Borlasians, The Shanly Foundation
and the other members of the Borlase community. Thank
you.
Having the chapel spire restored before 2014, the
Centenary of the start of the First WorldWar has been met
in good time.
The internal work needs further funding and will take
place at a later date.
